I am at BYU-ID now. I am taking some automotive classes. One of them is a electrical class. In this class we get to work on real projects for real clients. We get to chose our own project from a list then we get to call the owner of the vehicle and line up the time for them to bring it into the shop.
This is my project for right now, it is a 1997 GMC 1500 pick up. Now that I have finished the '86 Toyota pick up, I decided I wanted an American car for the project.
The first thing we do is make sure that the problem the owner tells us, is actually there. The owner said that the power window on the passenger side wouldn't go down. I found that problem plus more. I am just working on this problem and when I can have time to talk to the owner I can ask him if he wants the other fixed also.
I looked up a few wiring diagrams and checked some things on the truck. With my commonly confused and normally random way of doing things I decided to start with the door to see if power was getting to and through the switch. I figured the panel is easy to take off and that would tell me what side of the switch the problem is on.
This is with the outer panel off. I used my best friend, my test light, to help me test to see if the power was getting to and through the switch. As I was testing i found that the wiring diagram helped some but the colors were kinda mixed up. I did find the one for the up and down circuit for the window. They both were working the way they should. My random place I decided to start at really was a good place, becase I only have between the switch and the motor or the motor or the motor to ground.
I will keep you up to date on this project.
